Cooling Agent WS-12 | Maximum Intensity Throat Cooling

Product Overview
What Is Cooling Agent WS-12?
Cooling Agent WS-12 is a food-grade synthetic cooling agent. Its chemical name is N-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-p-menthane-3-carboxamide. It comes from the menthol family, yet it ranks as the strongest agent in the WS series.
First, WS-12 stays virtually odorless and tasteless. Therefore, it cools without adding any mint aroma or bitterness. Second, it activates the TRPM8 cold receptor on the tongue and the roof of the mouth. As a result, the cooling rises to a higher intensity than any other WS grade.
Third, WS-12 brings a distinctive throat-focused sensation. In other words, the coolness reaches the back of the mouth and the throat, where menthol cannot go. It also holds FEMA number 4681 and CAS number 68489-09-8. Consequently, formulators choose it whenever the brief calls for maximum intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cooling Agent WS-12, and how does it cool?
Cooling Agent WS-12 is N-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-p-menthane-3-carboxamide, a synthetic cooling agent with CAS number 68489-09-8. It activates the TRPM8 cold receptor on the tongue and the roof of the mouth. As a result, you feel the strongest cooling in the WS series, and the sensation reaches the throat as well. The effect lasts 15 to 30 minutes.
How does WS-12 differ from WS-3, WS-5 and WS-23?
WS-12 delivers the highest intensity of the four, and it cools the throat as well as the mouth. WS-3 gives a clean, immediate impact that lasts 15 to 30 minutes. On the other hand, WS-23 delivers a sharper, front-loaded burst. In contrast, WS-5 spreads a smooth, long-acting wave across the whole mouth. Therefore, many formulators blend WS-12 with WS-23 for e-liquids and with WS-5 for chewing gum.
Why does the melting point matter?
WS-12 melts at 179 to 183 °C, and it holds full cooling power even at 200 °C. Because of this, it suits baking, extrusion and hot-fill processes. By contrast, most other cooling agents lose impact under the same conditions.
