Cooling Agent WS-10 Technical Data and Specifications
Product Overview
What Is Cooling Agent WS-10?
Cooling Agent WS-10 is a food-grade synthetic cooling agent. Its chemical name is 3-(L-Menthoxy)propane-1,2-diol, and the trade also knows it as menthoxypropanediol. WS-10 breaks one rule that the rest of the series follows, because it arrives as a liquid.
First, WS-10 carries two hydroxyl groups on its backbone. Therefore, it blends into water-based systems far better than most WS grades. Second, it activates the TRPM8 cold receptor across the whole oral mucosa and on the skin. As a result, the cooling feels gentle, yet it persists for 15 to 30 minutes.
Third, WS-10 measures a cooling strength of about 4.5 against menthol, which sits at 1. In other words, a small dose does the work of a much larger mint load. It also holds FEMA number 3784 and CAS number 87061-04-9. Consequently, formulators reach for it whenever a formula needs a liquid that pours straight in.
