WS-1 is the parent compound of the WS cooling-agent family: a p-menthane-3-carboxylic acid with gentle, intrinsic cooling activity of its own. Unlike menthol it is non-volatile and nearly odorless, delivering a soft, low-key coolness on skin and mucosa without the bite, burn or minty aroma. It is widely used as a mild cooling agent in its own right in cosmetics and personal-care formulations, and serves industry-wide as the direct building block for the classic WS-3 / WS-5 amide coolants.
